Key responsibilities include:
• Creating a safe and stimulating environment: To ensure children are safe, happy, and stimulated.
• Supporting children’s development: To help children develop their learning abilities, physical coordination, speaking, and colour recognition. To encourage children’s concentration, creativity, and sense of discovery. To plan and setup activities.
• Tending to children’s daily needs: sitting down with them at meal times and talking about healthy eating, help feeding when needed.
• Communicating with children: to communicate positively with children using play, signs and language.
• Activities with children: To engage with children all the time. This includes doing activities with them, story times, encouraging positive behaviour and communication, healthy eating etc. To offer written observations when in long term placements.
• Maintain a positive attitude at all times with children, parents and staff and work as part of the team.
• Co-operate fully with other child care practitioners/professionals in relation to individual children’s needs.
• Support children with their individual personal hygiene needs (if requested by the nursery team and if you have been attending the nursery for long tome).
• To be able to provide parents feedback if required.
• To supervise a group of children. (when requested by the supervising team).
• Safeguarding: Nursery Practitioners will undergo Safeguarding training and must follow all safeguarding practices. You must also know the name of the Designated Safeguarding Person in the setting you visit each time. To notify the Designated Safeguarding Person of any safeguarding concerns, be able to write a report if needed.
• Ensure confidentiality is maintained.
• Ensuring health and safety: To ensure that all health and safety procedures are followed for the well-being of children and themselves. Conducting risk assessments of toys and equipment. Be able to write accident reports.
• To help with children’s nap times.
• To tidy up and clean toys and nursery equipment, to help setting up for lunches and tidying up too.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Undertake any other duties as reasonable requested by the nursery team.
